As one of the most visited destinations in the United Arab Emirates, Dubai has much to offer visitors besides it's bustling international airport. Regarded as one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the region - and certainly the most westernised - Dubai offers modern attractions to visitors that include cutting-edge architectural feats, fantastic shopping, and an international feel that is apparent in its restaurants and sporting events. Although Dubai is relatively new as an urban location - its sprawling metropolis has grown from the money brought in by the oil reserves in the area - there are a number of historical sights well worth visiting: the Shindagha and Bastakiya districts, the Al Ahmadiya School and the Jumeirah Mosque are all popular.
The easiest way to get into Dubai from an international destination is to fly into Dubai International Airport, one of the busiest in the world. The major airline that uses the complex is Emirates, though many other airlines use the facilities including British Airways.
Car hire is available from the airport terminal or in Dubai itself, with many of the major international car rental companies represented. Europcar, Budget, National, Hertz, Thrifty and Sixt are amongst those present in the region. Getting around the Dubai area by car is relatively easy, though it is important to note that Arabic street signs should be read carefully (they can look similar to those unfamiliar with the script) and that use of the Al Garhoud Bridge and Sheikh Zayed Road are now tolled by the Salik road network.
